PRCR was founded as a response to the drastic environmental changes that impact the lives of millions. Organized and administered by members of the community, PRCR has a responsibility to ensure that the traditions and customs are preserved for future generations. Louisiana’s southern coastline has lost approximately 1,891 square miles of land loss since the 1930’s. Due to our location in the Birdfoot Mississippi Delta, PRCR has first-hand experience with the coastline and how it has changed over the years. According to Land Area Change in Coastal Louisiana: A Multidecadal Perspective (from 1956 to 2006), “Between 1990 and 2001, wetland was approximately 13 square miles per year – that is the equivalent of approximately one football field lost every hour (Barras et al. 2008).
